Clive and JC....almost there! |
A big thumbs up to Paul and Steve mixing the mortar and concrete today.
Incidentally how many volunteers does it take to fix a dodgy switch on a mixer.... about 6 ....
The other task of the day was centre drain cleaning - messy but vital with the wet months ahead. Roger "the Drains " J, Peter H and Keith kept at it all day, pulling out bucket after bucket of sludge and barrowing it away. I bet they smelt a treat by close of play....

What can't be see in this picture are the dumper loads of Mythe bricks placed behind platform 2 today. They were hand loaded in the car park, transported, and spread behind the wall. I'm pretty sure it was Terry, Jim and Steve on the sharp end of this job, but someone will put me straight I'm sure!
On other fronts Peter Q kindly brought a free load of slabs in from a benefactor. The van bringing them in, lost reverse gear so the dumper was brought into play to ferry them to the back of platform 2. Back breaking stuff....

The brick cleaners continue their onslaught on the Mythe bricks - we will certainly have enough to finish platform 2B.
We had a visit this afternoon from Malcolm Walker (S&T) and Neil Carr(Operations Manager) who met with JC to finalise the signal box slab levels. More of this another day - but all went well.
Finally we will be opening the bric a brac Shed on Wednesdays . This is to coincide with the signal box build which I am sure will attract many visitors on construction days.
Also a big thank you to all the the visitors who came to offer words of encouragement and support today - it was much appreciated.
Hurry back Jo with your camera ... I'm not getting any better at it!!!!

Wot's happened to Richard? It sounds like he is having a bad year, with one thing and another.
'Corsican Pines'? I thought they were Scots Pines?
Either way, having been parked in the driveway, loading the back of my car, when, one day, part of a branch fell off and hit me on the shoulder, I'd elect to fell the lot!
Corsican Pines and well worth preserving!
You seem to be making unbelievably rapid progress. Will there be enough bricks to finish the platforms?
Sorry, never having visited the site, I'm not exactly sure of which platform is which! From afar, it's all a bit confusing.

I visited the site today, and as with every time I visit I left so impressed with the progress of the Broadway lads.
I really hope that whoever has upset so many people is made to see the error of his ways. The railway is struggling to recruit Volunteers, what would happen if the Broadway gang decided to withdraw their labour from not only Broadway but Cheltenham too?I would put money on the picture of the 6 lads stood around the mixer that they were discussing whats been said rather than what's wrong with the switch. What are the board so concerned about?Do they not like success stories.
the boardroom blog has said something about it, but a fuller explanation would be nice, although I now understand it is apparently due to how funds are raised not whether we should be doing this, of course we should, and you lot are making a cracking job of it!
