Wednesday and Moving Along!

17 Volunteers today and wide variety of tasks on the go.

Roger B and the team were able to start the final 2B coping slab  laying today; as ever with grateful thanks to Richard and the Fairview lorry. As our stock of copers get lower we are forced to use lesser quality slabs. This is more problematic for the chaps laying them - the finished result will be fine!
14 slabs were laid by the close of play, which was a remarkable achievement. Well done to Roger, Keith, Terry and Rod. More to be done in a fortnights time. Where will they be next Wednesday? you will have to wait and see!

At last the signal box brick laying could get started after the wet weather. Its been frustrating  for all concerned. Here Clive seems to be leading the celebration singing..... The north east corner was completed and delivered 5 courses all round.

The next task is to lay the the plinth headers around the  rear section. Not a job to get wrong! Here Bob W and John Balderstone ( Building Services - Bridges) weigh up the job, with Roger H (right) looking on.

For my part, I worked with Gord on the setting out of the Platform 2 Bracket Signal footing at the bottom of the ramp. This needs to be checked and signed off by S&T before any work can start.  It wasn't quite as easy as spraying a square on the grass by the way!

Incidentally, thank you for your marvellous response to our Signal footing appeal. It's really coming along nicely.

On other fronts some more Cotswold stone was brought up from the Mythe pile for Vic to continue his landscaping on the drive and another dumper load of rubble was placed behind 2B.

While all this was going on 4 brick cleaners were beavering away increasing our stocks for platform 1C.

All together an excellent days work. I hope the weather is going to be kind to us so that we can keep this momentum going.

Good to see important stages of the signal box getting done! Is there any mention of the signal appeal on the main gwr website? Perhaps might see an increase in donations if a news item was done on it, been a while since there was. Anything on rebuilding broadway on the news section anyway (mostly due to this blog I presume)

How will the front opening under the platform for signal box rodding/cable runs etc be bridged? Big precast concrete slab?

Is it wise to put steel effectively underground where corrosion can develop?

The steel is galvanized and therefore fit for purpose.....
