Saturday 7th September 2013 - Rising above it all

A difficult day today,  as internal politics surfaced in recent days  and  have wounded those who have worked so hard at getting us where we are today.

Nevertheless our Saturday volunteers roses above it and I can report the following:

After a cool and blustery start 12 stalwarts braved the conditions and during the afternoon got into top gear.
A big fire was started at the northern end beyond the Drott and a considerable amount of rubbish and weeds were burned and the whole site now looks a lot cleaner.
Meanwhile the Brickies Roger and Tony supported by Clive and Roger got stuck in to the laying of the final heavy concrete blocks in the foundation of 2B and at the end of play had got the job finished, it is now ready for the concrete crew on Wednesday .

Dave and John B continued with the never ending job of weeding , whilst JC started the big job of getting the detailed setting out for the signal box under way.  The piling contractor is due for a site planning and discussion meeting next Wednesday.

I'm afraid it wasn't a day for taking photos - lets hope we can resume normal working as soon as possible. Bill

My sympathies Bill. If it's any consolation it's not just you outstation boys at Broadway that are feeling it. There's a mood sweeping through the volunteers I've not encountered before.

Is this the problem?

Cant see why. The notice I have received explains the meeting is to correct a long running situation which is a legal technicality

The Boardroom Blog has said we are having the best season ever and there is so much going on.

I am not aware of a mood sweeping through us

So reading between the lines somebody has criticized the way things are being done at Broadway. If that is the case then I think it is beneath contempt to say anything negative about anybody who gives of there time freely for something that will benefit so many people in years to come. All of you lads have worked through atrocious conditions with one aim in sight that of restoring a rail link between Broadway and Cheltenham.
Over 30,000 hits a month show that an awful lot of people are fascinated with what is happening so Bill you must be doing something right.
I hope this is not going to slow the incredible rate at which things are going,I for one want to live long enough to ride the train from Broadway once again.

I've only been following the progress of the reconstruction of Broadway station for a couple of weeks. Frankly I'm astonished by the dedication of so few people engaged upon such an enormous task. And the progress that is being made, well it's just amazing. Heartwarming, really.

Could you publish a timeline of photos?

Such a pity when things like this happens. It makes you feel as if you have been kicked in the teeth. You guys at Broadway are fantastic. Hope everything is resolved soon and things get back to normal as soon as possible.

I've followed this blog for a long time and look forward to each new post. I see a team of volunteers happily prepared to commit their time and skills to rebuild a part of our heritage, for the love of it. What could have been so important as to jeopardise the harmony of this band of brothers? Was the bone of contention really worth the damage done? Please, carry on your geat work and quickly put this incident in the trash can of history. You have widespread support and admiration for what you are achieving.

It is very easy to be destructive, much harder to be constructive particularly if you are at the top of an organisation which benefits from people who are volunteers and give their time freely. The Board may or may not have an issue. This needs to be sorted by discussions and not by launching a written attack on volunteers who have the best interest of GWR at heart

If you have a willing and productive group of people that are creating something, then you let them form the vision and realise it with minimal outside intervention. That is the kernel of good management.

Most regrettable. I hope the G&WR is not emulating the WSR.

Well, I have no idea what the issue is, but am encouraged that 17 were on duty yesterday. What a great job.
No we don't want another WSR!! It would be nice to hear things have healed up. Just reading what happened made me not want to visit, I remember. Yes there will be difficulties always, but it's how we handle it that determines the outcome.
