Monday 22nd July 2013 - Cheltenham Racecourse Platform 2

Four Broadway Volunteers were on site today, 'setting out' for bricklaying to start on Wednesday, and shifting more bricks. Jo sent me this report - how he and Paul kept going on the brick shifting I do not know.....
Hi Bill,
What a hot and humid day, and only 4 volunteers at CRC. The temperature measured 28.5C when I left, and 30C when I got to Broadway.
On site were John C, Bob W, Paul C and myself. Neil Carr came mid morning with an S&T train, to replace some damaged telephone cabling, and at the same time he took the opportunity to discuss our method statement with John C.
We levelled out the container area, where more scalpings had been provided last time, set up the water butt, took receipt of a supply of sand for mortar, and while Bob and John set out the levels for the first, farthest bit of wall to be built, Paul and I (re-)started the interminable job of moving bricks from the north end of the site to the south. We did three pallets today, and so far 7 of the big pile of 50 that is there (with more further on !). We make that 1200 bricks moved today, hot and backbreaking. Just one or two volunteers more would have made a difference; I guess people are on holiday at the moment.
Pictures are attached; I shall do CRC again on Wednesday, unless you say otherwise.
Best regards,

Jo

Cheeky buggers. I note there's no mention of the loco having to stop on Weds because the team had gone to lunch and left a wheelbarrow against the rail ;-)
