The Bracket Signal Post Arrives!

Platform 2  now boasts not only a Signal Box but a signal as well (well almost!)

Vic Haines Transport brought the freshly prepared signal post, including bracket and dollys over to Broadway and used their HIAB skills to assist in mounting it in its final position. Malcolm Walker and Neil Carr supervised the operation, with BAG Members Dave Bowie, Vic Smith and Peter Quick in attendance.

I know what the next question is when is it going to be dressed out in all its finery. All I can say is "it won't be long"

What I would like to do is to thank all the sponsors who have patiently waited for its arrival and to thank  the BAG members who turned up today to help out, both on the tree exercise and the bracket post erection. The photos are a nosegay of the pics taken by Dave, Vic and Jo and are much appreciated also.

Surely it needs finials to stop rain getting in the tubes and rotting from the inside?

What is the provenance of the bracket- where did it spend it's GWR/BR life?

For those of us who do not understand semaphore signals, I thought that this arrangement was for use at junctions, the highest upright indicating main line and the lower upright indicating a diverging branch line

The Blogger has said that it won't be long before the signal gets all its finery so I expect the finals will be going on pretty soon. Anyway there's no rain forecast this week, trust me! Bracket signals like this are common on the GWSR, I can think of 1 at Toddington and 1 at Winchcombe. They aren't solely used for diverging Branch lines but are common on single lines where there's a passing loop. At least, that's how I understand it, but I'm no expert! Once again, well done to the Broadway team and to all those supporters who are turning dreams to reality.

This is brilliant ... a real sign to anybody who passes by that the railway is here. Great stuff.

Have a look at picture 9 on the bridges blog for Tuesday 22.7. Signal now almost fully assembled - what an impressive sight!
