Thank You Broadway Parish Council!

The Broadway Area Group have received a donation of £1000 towards the Platform 1A Appeal from Broadway Parish Council.  This represents a great deal of money to us and will allow us to finish off 1A in its entirety. We will continue our Sponsor a 1A Coping Slab Appeal in order that supporters feel they have contributed to the fabric of  Broadway Station.

Thank you Broadway Parish Council and thanks to all our supporters for their donations and words of encouragement.

2012 has proved to be a good year for the GWSR so far and this welcome donation just made it even better! What excellent news and progress, well done once again.

Excellent news that you've reached your target for platform 1A. I also contributed to the fund though with a much smaller donation. Have you considered starting a platform 1B appeal or even a station building appeal with the money still to come in for the coping slabs? Just a thought!

Wonderful news - a most generous donation at a time of financial stringency. Now we owe it to them (and the other contributors) to not only finish it off but to find a way of bringing it into use as soon as possible!

This is indeed gratifying news and shows how well thought of the project is. The arrival of the railway on the outskirts of this English jewel will be win-win.

Anony's quite right, this postcard perfect classic British tourist experience at Broadway will bring more interest into the town from far and wide, so the Council have made coachloads of investment for a modest outlay. A very shrewd investment.
I'll certainly be there a lot more, spending as I go.

What a waste of public money. It should be used to keep the precept down that the ratepayers of Broadway have to pay or to provide services that will actually be of really benefit to the entire community. This railway was closed for sound reasons and should not be considered for reopening when it will only benefit the few, not least its shareholders. The entire railway should have been sold off and returned to more productive uses such as housing & agriculture.

If the previous correspondent thinks the Railway is a waste of Broadway ratepayers money then what on earth does he/she think of all the money that is going to be pumped into the proposed cycle path between Broadway and Evesham.
The tone of the letter would suggest that he/she is not a railway fan so why are they reading a railway blog site?
More power to the lads they are working miracles on what can be a very cold site.

The parish council must have judged that when the railway is open to Broadway it will bring in more tourism business to Broadway, ultimately to the benefit of all council tax payers. I agree, it surely will. Maybe our concerned correpondent doesn't like tourists.

Best not to let one individual spoil the great work being done by an enthusiatic group of uncomplaining, hardworking volunteers who happily contribute their skills, time and money for the purpose of eventually bring pleasure to many. In time the railway may well serve a broader, public service function, usefully connecting two national rail lines. Shareholders do not receive a dividend as the railway is not a quoted company, any profit being re-invested. It's done mainly for the love of it, something clearly absent in some other parts of society.

I would just like to say to the person who did not approve of Broadway PC's donation, that the railway was NOT closed for sound reasons; it was probably closed like many other railways purely for short-sightedness. The "powers that be" at the time thought that oil supplies and motoring would last forever and would always be cheap. There was no "Plan B" if the oil ran out or motoring became too expensive (except for the richest few). The problem is many of our closed railway lines have indeed been turned into housing or agriculture or had roads built on them and so would be difficult to reinstate. Thank goodness for railways like the G & WR who are re-instating a railway so that it will once again provide a pleasurable journey through the countryside for tourists and local people and hopefully soon will be rejoined to the National railway network at Honeybourne thus extending our rail network further for our future needs.

"Anonymous What a waste of public money." is obviously what is known as a 'troll', or just a NIMBY.

However, everyone has a right to express an opinion, even if they are wrong!
