Labours of Love!

An excellent day with almost a full team of volunteers and, with electricity connected, the inaugural switching on of the kettle ( only £6 Jim boasts with pride!) for the first of many cups of tea.

A long awaited security compound was built using Heras fencing. The ubiquitous bonfire burns away nicely.

Jim doing what Jim likes best, building the pit for the mains water stop cock in the drive.

Last but not least, Peter, myself and a rear-guard action from Gordon refurbished the line side electrical cabin and added a door, with wood scrounged from Carriage and Wagons at Winchcombe. No less that brilliant!

A Great Day on Wednesday!

A special work day was convened to install and commission the Water and Electricity Supplies for the site. Great progress was made!

The Water Supply was "tapped" into in the driveway. A trench was then dug towards the cabins, and although time got the better of us, the final stretch and connection should be very straight forward (famous last words!).

The connection to the electrical supply had been attempted earlier this year but a grounding problem frustratingly left the job unfinished. Here the cable is being replaced and good work by Steve the Spark saw the work successfully completed, bar the switch on!

How about JCB Aerobatics! Steve the Shovel gets airborne to dig the trench to the mains supply in the driveway .

And finally Steve the Spark gets down to the task of connecting the electricity up at a junction box along the trackbed. Potential volunteers please note that above all volunteers enjoy themselves!

A Bridge too Far!

Before Trains can pass along the line to Broadway, all the bridges require surveying and then refurbishment to ensure there are no dangers to public life or limb. There are five bridges left to "make good" before Broadway can be reached from the current track position. Not least of the jobs will be the total re spanning of the now infamous Laverton Bridge. Apparently this is now in the hands of Tewkesbury Planning Department and its associated Committees. Lets hope that a fair minded approach is taken, the proven integrity of the GWSR is recognised, and a swift decision is made on an issue that could turn political rather than technical.
