There were 12 of us today, hoping the sunny start was going to stay for the day. It nearly happened, but by 1:30 the unrelenting wind was bringing in the rain and then the heavens opened!

Clive carefully laying the final row of corbelling.... |
There were three jobs on the go - the first was the continuing building of platform 2B. Clive and John S were the brick layers in action, Clive on the corbelling and John backing up.

John S backing up.... |
As you can see from the shadows and the blue sky we were optimistic that the forecasters had got it
wrong and we were in for a good day.

Mike on the sight pole and Peter K on brick cleaning.... |
Gordon came in today as our master surveyor to lay out the centre line for the 1C footings. There are 30m of footing involved to take 20m of level platform and the northern ramp. The northern end of the platform 1 is literally in sight. Yippee is the word I think.......

Mike pegging out... |
Gordon then moved southwards to platform 2A to mark out the theoretical track bed edge so that we can accurately place our Starter Bracket Signal.
Incidentally a sincere thank you to the donations made so far for the bracket foundations... you have been very generous. There's a little way to go so please consider sponsoring what will be the first S&T icon at Broadway.
In the same area John B and Dave B set to at recovering some reds from the old Broadway Signal Box plinths. There were a fair few to be had, and, with Jo's help, the treasure was returned to the brick cleaning area.
As I say, a break for lunch saw the rain come in and frankly everyone got a good soaking, firstly trying to ignore the rain, and then covering up the brickwork and putting the tools away. Why do we do it.... well what else is more fun.... no smutty answers, thank you!

Lovely to see 1C making a start. How about a thermometer for the Starter Bracket Signal, Bill?
Keep up the excellent work all of you.
Steve
£560 donated so far on the signal project and up to £300,000 on bridges to Broadway. Thanks everyone who has donated to either.
or a train inching its way along the line from laverton to broadway every time a pound gets dropped down the chimney. a pound in, a puff out, an inch further and a toot on the whistle.
hi guys, in a previous blog you said the red specials were on order, what are they? I noticed at toddington theres some nice decorative bricks round the windows and across the top of the walls to plate hight. will this be able to be replicated at broadway? also, looking at the Shirley signal box, the blues on the corners were rounded, do they manufacture such a brick still?
Mack, The specials on order are the "fancy bricks" for the Station and Waiting Room. Cut and paste www.broadwaystation.co.uk/bricks.htm into your browser to see some more detail.
The bull nose bricks on the corners of the signal box will be replicated also.
But, the blue bricks on the corners of Shirley signal box weren't rounded. They were normal shaped bricks. http://www.warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/gwrsh493.htm
I presume there will be a 2C sometime in the future as well?
