Wednesday 23rd October 2013 - A Great Turnout!

I'm afraid I had one of those muddled days today - my morning was curtailed by a routine medical appointment and I did not get a chance to talk to many of the troops who had turned out in force - 18 to be precise!

Jo kindly gave me a report of the days activities and so I defer to his report as follows:-

Hi Bill,
Here are the pictures  I took today .
Lots of brick laying progress, thanks to the return of Clive, who did a whole row by himself but was an elusive catch for the camera! We were delighted to see him again. (Hear Hear!)

Bob W laid 201 bricks, and Tony back filled them. Roger B did 1 ½ rows of corbelling, so there were 4 ‘coal faces’ along the wall today.

I got 3 loads of Mythe bricks up, and one of big bull noses, from the car park. We also re-supplied the brick layers, and carried away the result of the lineside clearance – hawthorn branches, bramble etc down to the fire, or for firewood.

Vic did more gardening, and there were several brick cleaners in action. Peter Q has made the first two of 3 sections for a mobile roof for the brick layers.

Peter Q also brought two more 3ft slabs, I think he is taking up someone’s patio, and putting the slabs in his boot, two at a time. They are very heavy! More next week too.

Jim H investigated how we would fix the supply cable to the top of the lamp post, and then spent the afternoon liaising with you over the positioning of the additional security camera.
It all kept  us very busy, and it was pleasantly dry. Enough for me to put another coat on the cast iron post too.
Best regards,

Jo

Here is the start of the construction of the Platform 2 Waiting Room which temporarily  is going to be a shelter for the brick layers during the winter!

An Extra from Peter H

Sorry it's a bit late letting you know for the blog  but we have a most welcome visit from dear old Jim Graham this afternoon. I spent most of the afternoon with him showing the progress we have made since his last visit. He was most impressed and very complimentary of the quality of the brick laying. We had a cup of tea before he went and I do hope he visits us again soon. He wishes to be remembered to you and sends his very best wishes. He was also very impressed with the turn out of the troops.

See you next week.

Kind regards

Peter.

How long would it take Usain Bolt to run the current length of platform 1?

I noticed today that the Footbridges at Hall Green, Henley in Arden and Stratford upon Avon are being replaced. I don't know how you woud go about it but would any be useful for Broadway or are we having a new one?

Re Usain Bolt- about 20 seconds!

Re the bridges - we will take a look at their condition and suitability - after all they are just up the road!

Are you sure they are going to replace Stratford footbridge? Wasn't it just a few years ago that it was under shrouds for months? Presumably they were painting/repairing it then. However, I believe they have to do something about their disabled access, I think that currently you have to ask a railway employee to wheel you across the tracks, should you be in a wheelchair and need to get to platform 2(or whichever it is on the other side). I have always wondered what would happen in the evening as the station is unmanned then. So they may well be considering removing it.

I've just looked at this site, Warwickshire County Council.

http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/stratfordtownstation

I rang the number, and the existing bridge is staying there.

Hall Green footbridge used to be at the bottom of my garden. (It was me that moved, not the bridge).

It is of the type that has two staircases plus a through exit onto a road level with the top of the cutting.

It would be ideal for CRC, even to the point of being 'handed' in the appropriate direction.
