A Change of Blog Header

A new year and time to polish up the Blog. The new picture is of "Castle Class" 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe simmering by the Shirley Signal Box on 16th October 2008. Our new Signal Box at Broadway is modelled on the Shirley Signal Box and will have many of its features. The Shirley Box was demolished all too quickly at the end of 2010. Lets hope the Broadway Box is a fitting tribute to it.

As for 5043, well unashamedly its my favourite loco in steam, by far, by a mile, by any other measure.......

My thanks to photographer Matt Wilson for permission to use the the photo and to Brian Wilson at BRW Computing for arranging it on behalf of Tysely Loco Works.

1450? It will be back!!!!!!!

I don't know if any of the bits of it would be of any use for Broadway and the rest of the GWR Bill, but South Brent signal box down on the South Devon Mainline is sadly due for demolition shorty as no local use has been found for it - so it might be worth getting in touch with Network Rail for that one.

Richard, I will make some inquiries but retrieving materials from a running line is notoriously difficult.

I don't know if you are aware of it (you probably are!) but on the National preservation website there is a post from a chap at NR giving details of who to contact re assest disposal. As it is in the public domain, I have copied the details below - hope it is useful NDSRedundantAssets@networkrail.co.uk or call Jerry Swift on 07795 688672
Excellent work by the way!
