Network rail are usually pretty good at informing people when their about to remove or demolish a listed or architectually important structure. They gave the kings cross footbridge to mid-hants.. i guess it would be hard to assemble a team at such short notice.. to work all night palleting bricks from there and carting them off to broadway!

I understand about the logistics involved in obtaining those bricks but what a great shame. Anyone any ideas about what happened to them? I'd hate to think they were simply dumped.

They would be crushed and used as aggregate for back fill where possible locally on the same project, Landfill tax does not allow for just dumping. It is unlikely there would be that many good bricks, also the site are constrained for space therefore the project teams would not have wanted the rubble laying around long. NR policy is to recycle / reuse where feasible and that dose mean offering to heritage projects.

Have just heard on the news about network rails improvement program, so I'm sure there'll be some more Victorian masterpieces comming down.... Just need the right contact at network rail now... And 30-50 enthusiasts to work all night between day job !!
