Saturday 7th December 2013

A delay in posting this report - a family 50th birthday party got in the way! A little man is banging a drum in my head this morning.......

Nevertheless it was great day yesterday at Broadway with 14 volunteers beavering away in a watery sunshine. The weather got progressively colder and by 4 0clock you realised that Winter is upon us.

JC and Jim nearly fix the mixer....
Much of the hard work was on the brick cleaning front. 4 brick cleaners were on the benches - the Mythe bricks are proving tough candidates for reclamation.....

Robin aghast - he turned his back
 and another  dumper load arrives..

Of course the  pile of un-cleaned bricks continues to mount as more are retrieved from the car park. Today the turned over piles yielded 5 dumper loads of red and blues. The lads down in the car park switched from brick recovery to ditch cleaning, setting up  and lighting a bonfire as a reward. An unhelpful wind sent the smoke in all directions - apologies to the locals!

Roger seems to be saying where to put the advice.....

Roger was the only bricklayer today. Having
been away for a week or two he was keen to get his hand back in!

Come the Spring we want to step up the bricklaying by a gear or two. If you have brick laying skills why not join our Broadway Volunteers  and help us move forward more quickly? There is a great team spirit and there can't be anything much more rewarding than being part of this great project.

We plan to start on the Signal Box this week, weather permitting. Keep an eye out on the blog camera! Some final levelling was completed yesterday so that the bricklayers have an even surface to work from. I cant wait for it to start!

Steptoe Jo's spoils.....

Finally thanks to Pete and Pat for bringing up the slate side panels from the Toddington  Station urinals. I have no idea yet what we are going to do with them -  polite suggestions on a postcard please!

why have they ripped yet another piece of original infratructure out of Toddington Gents?

I know there is the modern toilet block to use, but aren't we supposed to be conserving?

I can't agree with ripping the said slate side panels out of Toddington gents but lets make good use of them in the Broadway toilets just as they did at Bewdley on the island platform.

We really must ensure ANYTHING historical such as this is put to good use. Our children's children will thank us for our foresight.

I agree totally with Doug's sentiments and we at Broadway will do our best to include as much of the GWR history as is practicable.

Regarding the very tall pine trees by the Signal Box base, at least two have a white x. Are they to be felled ?

Check the SB camera....Felled - operative term... Logs anybody...

I'd definitely be interested in cutting up the felled trees for logs in return for a donation to the BAG to continue supporting the brilliant job that you're doing. Who should I get in touch with?
